Uninvited Guests

April 20, 2010

I usually hate uninvited guests. However this one is a little too hard to resist. Look what has been hanging around my back yard this week.

He’s only pretty small, I would estimate about 12 weeks old. He is a little purr machine. He climbed through the window and into bed with me last night – what a little cutey! Even Ned thought he was ok, and put up with his kittenish ways pretty well, sharing food with him and all.

However, he didn’t think about what an amazing feat it was that The Boyfriend was sort of starting to come to terms with a new baby pet in the house. Then he pooed all over the floor right next to where The Boyfriend sleeps. Poor little Mr Purry. The Boyfriend has started calling him Mr Pooey.

Yep, think I am going to have to find him a home now. I was just starting to get attached, too! This afternoon, I’m taking him down to the local Vet to see if he hasĀ  been microchipped. If not, I’ll be looking for any takers.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

Ned has always been a very affectionate little thing. However since Saturday he’s been acting strangely.

Firstly, he wasn’t around all weekend. His food was getting eaten, so I didn’t think too much about that, figuring that 20 firemen running through the house might have scared him. But then when I finally did catch up with him on Monday night he was a bit smelly, like he hadn’t been washing himself properly, and he had a sore ear. I figured he’d gotten into a fight, and made sure he stayed inside yesterday to recover – although I was starting to worry, since my friendly little purr monster wanted to hide away in a spare room behind a box of junk. Not like him at all, so I went home early yesterday, to see how he was, and took him straight to the vet. His ear looked so awful – pus and blood and gross.

Whoops, he’s apparently got the worst looking ear infection the vet has ever seen. After worrying all day about the vet’s dire predictions of polyps in his ear that have probably grown through and destroyed his eardrum, it turns out to have been a abscess from a cat fight which has successfully been cleaned out, and he can come home this afternoon.

I am so going to have a little chat with him when he gets home about fighting with the neighbours.

Naughty Ned. (Seen here with his late step sister in the background. And man, I remember when there were no few weeds in the garden like that picture. Must do something about that!)

On Friday I accidentally won another huge beef roast at The Local. I’m getting pretty good at making roast beef now, that’s for sure. Although I am getting a bit sick of roast beef sandwiches. This week’s roast was 2.5kg (5.5 pounds) and it was boneless so not any part of that weight was from a bone. Last week’s was even bigger. Luckily, I am not thinking of turning vegetarian any time soon.

The last 3 weeks have been rather boss-free at work, with him being on holidays. He’s back today. Something tells me I won’t be getting home early all week this week. Or coming in late. Gee the last 3 weeks were good though.

This financial year is the first year I am in charge of a budget at work. We are 1 month into the financial year and I have discovered already items that are regular charges that I did not budget for. This should be an interesting learning experience!

This is my little Ned. Ned likes to fall asleep while reading books. Ned was named after Ned Kelly the bushranger.

I booked a holiday in December. A cruise. It was a bargain price or I probably would have opted for something more exciting. I found out that someone from my work has booked the same cruise. Actually 2 people have – they both work at my work. I am friendly with them because I learned long ago to be nice to people at work, and they will remember that and help you out when you need it. If I didn’t have to be nice according to my rule I would say they are both wombats (waste of money, brains and time). Must spend next 4 months working out avoidance strategies and studying the layout of that ship.

Oreo

Here’s Oreo in the garden.

She certainly wasn’t always the most elegant of cats.

elegant

She took up far too much room in the bed than you would think possible for a little cat. I think she thought she was a human, she used to lie with her head on the pillow and her body under the covers, just like me.

On Saturday we sprinkled her ashes into the garden where she loved to sit in the sun.

Sad

July 22, 2009

My cat had her operation late yesterday. It was a pretty nasty sounding deal but the vet was confident.

She woke up from the operation and it all looked good. An hour after that, she died. No good reason, she just died.

If there’s a kitty heaven, she’s up there right now scratching the eyes out of other cats.

Pussy Prayers

I’ve often wondered what it must be like to have a child that is just simply horrible. Mean, spiteful – we’ve all met someone like that. Do you think their mum loves them? I suspect they do, based on my own reactions this week.

I have 2 cats. One is a lovely lively little thing even though he’s very naughty, and in fact was named after a bushranger because he is such a naughtly little character and always was. The other cat is a horrible little bitch. Several times I have had girlfriends go home with blood running down their face from where they got too close to this one. She once crapped on me, in my bed, while I slept. For fun. Then I rolled in it. She can’t help it – the vet told me many years ago she was just not a very nice natured animal, probably didn’t like me, and prescribed kitty-prozac.

A few weeks ago my little special needs kitty was diagnosed with a skin cancer on her nose. Half a nose later, I hoped that would be the end of it. However the past few days it has gotten dramatically worse. And now I am awaiting the phone call that will tell me if there’s anything more that can be done. I actually suspect not – the news has not sounded good to date.

I’d appreciate any good thoughts being aimed towards my little kitty today, horrid though she may be. I wish I didn’t care so much – it’s not cool to bawl at work.
