One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor

September 4, 2010

According to Ted’s Mum, nothing good ever happens after 2am. I beg to differ. Late last night I found myself drinking my friend’s invention of tequila and Red Bull. It sounds disgusting but tastes delicious! However, based on how chipper my household was this morning (not at all), I should really remember the next time I fnd myself drinking spirits that it is probably time to go home. Anyway, we were trying out a new local pub that’s just been renovated nearby – a few of us are tiring of The Local and some of the politics that go on there, so we’re thinking we might move en masse to this other pub. Good plan for me – it’s only a 2 block walk from my house as opposed to a 15 minute walk to the other one!

Just on 2:30 I found myself deep in conversation with one of my friends who is a total player. (He actually got chased by a guy with a golf club on our way to the pub last night after he stopped to lean in  girl’s car window, said “Nice car” and tried to chat her up. Her boyfriend wasn’t such a fan of this approach. I laughed my head off to see him running towards our taxi being chased by a lunatic wielding a golf club.) This friend not only tries to be a ladies man, but also is one of those typical Aussie sterotypes – a tough tradie (he’s the one helping me renovate my house) who shows no emotion, he’s far too tough.

I find it pretty funny that after several too many lemonades my tough friend can be very affectionate. In fact he once cracked 2 of my ribs giving an over enthusiastic hug. So it was not a complete surprise when he looked at me suddenly with a look of comple surprise and said “You know, I really love you. And I don’t even want to sleep with you! I’ve never had a platonic female friend, ever! It’s pretty cool.”

It is pretty cool.

Bits and Pieces

July 12, 2010

Ah yes, ye olde blog, I have neglected you. I blame the fact that it’s been a busy couple of weeks that have really kicked my ass.

A funeral – for a friend who decided to take their own life. Such a sad event – and saddest of all for his young son, barely 1 year old.

A birth – a girlfriend’s first baby. I was relieved when visiting her to see she had a good looking baby. Sometimes they seem to come out looking like little old men, or monkeys. Fortunately I was able to honestly say her son was a gorgeous little thing.

In hot water – or not, as my hot water heater is on the verge of exploding, if the the hot water leaking from underneath the tank is any clue. I really must get a plumber out to have a look. I suspect a new one is in the near future.

Railing at the cost – of new balustrades for the balcony project. I’m horrified to find the iron lace panels etc look like they are going to set me back around $15,000. Yikes. That’s JUST for the lacework ballustrade, corners and frieze.

Soccer World Cup is over – and so it means the end for my latest favourite joke. Where you mention casually in conversation that someone told you how annoying you were. When asked why, you say “I dunno, but I nearly choked on my vuvuzela!”

Alternative Fun

November 12, 2009

Obviously I am so not fun at the moment, and there are only so many WOE IS ME updates one can make before it starts to sound tired.

While I cough up a lung and sweat out my quarantine period (I am so hating the lack of people contact!!! I hate not having people around me!), do yourself a favour and go and check out my best friend’s blog,  svthyme. You’ll find great reading in their archives, and as they have just returned to civilisation after 14 weeks out of contact range while they travelled around the north west of Australia, there’s bound to be a few regular updates of their travels that hardly any people would be able to experience due to the remoteness of the area.

My friends left Sydney in December 2007 in their 42 foot yacht and have been sailing around Australia ever since. They are only half way but have had amazing adventures. I’ve done a few legs with them – one in April 08 and one in September 08 – and it is just amazing to sail out past where land can be spotted. I think I am at heart a salty seadog.

They had better watch out – the updates coming through after months of no news are making me crave sailing another leg.
